During the entire process, it is necessary to be flexible. In addition, it is important to adjust the expectations, criterion, and timelines to assure success for the students. This year has presented many challenges based on the general disarray of the district. It is evident that there will be many obstacles during the design process. Some will be controllable and others will be beyond your control. To achieve our goals, it was a delicate balance navigating the obstacles. After speaking to the students, they provided some interesting feedback regarding the project. The students stated that learning by doing solidified the concepts and assisted in the retention of the material presented. Most the students stated that they understood the material on a deeper level. I noticed that the project provided a vehicle to layer the material to maximize the rigor for the students. It provided an opportunity to present new concepts in a different platform. It will provide an opportunity for the students to discover new ways to solve problems and support problem solving skills. This project has made me shift the way information is presented to the students. In addition, it has change the way students will be assessed. My students will have more project based assessments. The format of the lessons will support problem solving skills. Once the students became accustomed to the new format of the class, they prefer the lesson and assessment format. This experience has made a lasting shift on my pedagogy.
